Pool Tip of the Day: What’s the Best Time to Run Your Pool Pump?

Running your pool pump is crucial to keeping the water clean and safe—but timing matters too! Best Time: Run your pump during the day, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM, when the sun is strongest and algae is most likely to grow. UV rays break down chlorine faster, so circulating and filtering during this time helps your chemicals do their job more efficiently! Want to save on energy? If you’re on a time-of-use electricity plan, consider running your pump early in the morning or late evening to avoid peak rates. You can also split the time—run a few hours in the morning and a few more in the evening. Pro Tip: Most pools do great with 8 hours of circulation per day, but this can vary based on pool size and equipment. Need help setting a pump schedule or upgrading to a variable-speed pump? We’re just a message away.

Pool Tip of the Week: Which Pool Filter is Right for You?

Not all pool filters are created equal! Choosing the right one can make a big difference in water clarity, maintenance, and overall performance. Here’s a quick breakdown of the three main types: Sand Filters. A common and budget-friendly option. Sand filters are easy to use and maintain. They catch debris as water flows through a special sand bed, but they may not filter as finely as other options. Cartridge Filters. These filters use a replaceable cartridge to trap dirt and debris. They offer great filtration with less water waste during cleaning. A solid middle-ground choice for many pool owners. DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters. The top performer when it comes to water clarity. DE filters use a powder made from fossilized algae to trap even the smallest particles. They require more maintenance but give you crystal-clear water. Not sure which one you have or need? We’re happy to help! Give us

Let’s Talk About Phosphates in Your Pool!

You might have heard about phosphates when it comes to pool care, but what are they, and why should you care? Phosphates are organic materials that come from leaves, lawn fertilizer, rainwater, and even swimmers. On their own, they don’t directly harm you… but they do feed algae. Think of them like fertilizer for algae growth in your pool! More phosphates = more food for algae = more green pool days = more headaches for you. Here’s why keeping phosphates under control is a smart move: Reduces the chances of algae blooms Makes your chlorine work more efficiently Keeps your water clearer, longer Saves you time and money on extra chemicals At ACORB Pools, we monitor phosphate levels as part of our water treatment program. If we see levels creeping up, we take care of it before it becomes a bigger issue, so your pool stays clean, safe, and swim-ready.
