What Is a Pool Skimmer?
A skimmer is built into the side of your pool and is designed to pull in surface water. It helps remove floating debris like leaves, bugs, pollen, and even oils before they sink to the bottom of your pool. The skimmer is connected to your pool pump and filtration system, keeping water circulating and clean.
The Role of the Skimmer Basket
Inside the skimmer is a removable basket that acts like a filter for large debris. This skimmer basket catches leaves, twigs, insects, and other debris so they don’t reach the pump or clog your filter system.

Different Types of Skimmer Baskets:

* Weighted Baskets. Stay in place even during pump shutdown or high flow
* Baskets with Handles. Easier and cleaner to remove
* Leaf Canisters. Used with vacuums, ideal for heavy leaf loads
Maintenance Tip:
Check your skimmer basket at least once a week (or let us do it!) a clogged basket will restrict water flow and may even damage your pump. If it’s cracked or missing, get it replaced right away.
