How Much Water Does Your Pool Lose to Evaporation in the Houston Heat?

If your pool water seems to drop faster during the summer, you’re not imagining it. The intense Houston heat causes natural evaporation, and the numbers might surprise you. During the summer, pools in our area can lose ¼ to ½ inch of water per day. That adds up to: 2–3 inches per week For a 20,000-gallon pool, that’s around 250 to 500 gallons of water every week, the equivalent of 10 to 20 full bathtubs! Evaporation increases with: All-day sun exposure Temperatures above 90°F Windy afternoons Pools kept warm or uncovered overnight At ACORB POOLS, we’re here to help especially during Houston’s hottest months. Is My Pool Safe for My Dogs?

Many of our customers ask. “Can my dog safely swim in the pool?” The answer is usually yes, but with a few precautions. Here are some tips to help keep your furry friends safe: Watch the Water Chemistry Dogs bring in oils, dirt, and hair, much more than humans! This can throw off your pool’s balance. Regular professional maintenance ensures the water stays clean and safe for everyone, humans and pups alike. Teach Them How to Get Out Make sure your dog knows where the pool steps or shallow ledge are. Add a pet ramp if needed. Even strong swimmers can get tired or panic if they can’t find a way out. Keep an Eye on Older Dogs or Small Breeds Not all dogs

How Houston Heat Affects Your Pool Water Chemistry

As the summer heat cranks up in the Houston area, your pool water chemistry changes faster than you might think. High temperatures speed up chlorine loss, especially under direct sunlight. That means your pool needs more chlorine than usual just to stay clean and safe. On top of that, warm water creates the perfect environment for algae to grow and no one wants a green pool! What does extreme heat do to your pool? * Chlorine burns off faster * pH levels rise, making water scale-forming * Algae blooms become more likely * Evaporation increases, affecting water balance At ACORB Pools, we adjust your pool’s treatment each week to account for the heat including shocks, pH balance, and proper chemical dosing. Regular testing and professional adjustments are key to keeping your pool crystal clear all summer long. We service pools across Katy, Sugar Land, and Fort Bend County. 832-818-8584 www.acorbpools.com

Do You Know What Filter You Have in Your Swimming Pool?

Here’s how to tell just by looking at it! Your pool filter is one of the most important components for keeping your water clean and safe, but many homeowners don’t know which type they have. Knowing makes a big difference when it comes to maintenance and water quality. Here’s a quick guide to identify your filter just by its shape and valves: DE Filter (Diatomaceous Earth) Common in residential pools for its high filtration efficiency Tall, vertical tank often looks like a large capsule May have a multiport valve or a bump handle on top Requires adding DE powder after cleaning or backwashing If your filter needs powder after cleaning, it’s a DE filter. They’re great for capturing fine particles but need regular attention. Cartridge Filter Also very common in residential pools low maintenance and energy-efficient Tall, slim, vertical cylinder No multiport valve just a drain plug and pressure gauge
